Haleakala, the highest point on Maui. Erosion has created this basin, expanding the crater of the volcano into the massive valley you see here. There is a trail that goes down the crater to the floor below and guides will take tourists via horseback down it. One of these trips had started just before we headed out on foot so I was able to catch them on the switchback below us.
