Asian girl in red sweater walks alone down Chicago sidewalk while buildings loom in the background

12 November 08 | Red in a Sea of Gray

Everyday, when we were done in downtown Chicago we’d walk back to the train station along the river. One day as we were going along I saw this red sweater coming at me and had to take a picture. I only took one, without composing, I think it turned out well though.

I post-processed it in Lightroom with a little bit of a cross-processing. I’ve actually never done that before to an image. However, I found Chicago to be remarkably mono-chromatic—that’s one of the reasons this girl stood out to me so much—and the cross processing I’d seen really emphasized the blue-red combination so I thought I’d give it a try. The result was so strong that I had to reject the original and go with it.
