On a crowded street in a city I will sometimes walk through a busy intersection shooting blind with my thumb on the shutter release — holding a camera with a wide-angle lens set to a deep aperture somewhere around waist or chest level. The resulting compositions are completely candid and un-composed.
In this case I was walking across the street in front of the Park Central Hotel in New York City and caught this girl on her phone crossing the street. The amount of stuff she is caring — the purse, the mail, the giant shopping bags, the phone to her ear and headphones in on the other side all speak to a pedestrian lifestyle. I love that.
