It’s a three mile hike to Hanakapi’ai Beach on Kaua’i's northwest shore. Three miles up and down the steep Kalalau trail on loose, red, volcanic soil with a creek crossing at the end, just before the beach that houses a rip current that will suck you out to sea. It sounds like a militarized war zone, with helicopters circling overhead, the northernmost end of their tour pattern. It is beautiful, breathtaking, picturesque Hawaii.
