I’ve never been so wet as when I was in New York this summer. Seattle rain has nothing on New York rain. I couldn’t even use my usual rainy-day method of street shooting — wearing the camera around my neck but under a hard-shell jacket, pulling it out as necessary — the camera got too wet. Instead I was forced to wrap it in a plastic bag and rubber band the opening of the bag around the lens. It worked alright but I was shooting blind most of the time. I guess the locals just use umbrellas. I’ve never quite gotten the hang of those things. And one-handed shooting while trying to keep the umbrella upright — well that’s harder than shooting blind with two hands.
