Window washers — or maybe a construction crew, I don’t remember right now — working on a platform on an old brick building along the river in downtown Chicago.
I’m of two minds of the chromatic aberration I added in Lightroom around the edges of the image. Part of me hates it, I spent a long time looking for a lens that minimized that effect and I’m disappointed that I wasn’t able to just capture the image that my mind saw without having to manipulate it later. The other part of me reluctantly admits that it drives your eye in towards the two men, which are a bit lost without it, and it emphasizes the odd fragmented and ghostly lighting that was going on that day. In part it’s not the best photo. The building on the left is overexposed, the building in back in shadow. But the intersection of these two buildings was so intriguing, even more so with the hanging platform and the men working from it. With time and planning I could probably come back and better capture the essence, atmosphere, lighting and mood of this place. As is I hope I captured at least a bit of a sense of what it conveyed in its physical presence.
